Hameed Al Husseinie College, as per Education Ministry classification, is a 1AB category National School. Presently, it has classes from Grade 1 up to Grade 13. With over 2500 students, 83 teachers and another 15 supportive staff, the College has highly complex administrative requirements.

The Principal, with assistance from the Deputy Principals, Vice Principal and the management staff, manages the entire school through delegation of powers to different sectional heads.

Presently, the subjects are taught in Sinhala and Tamil language with English is taught as the second language.

The Primary Section of the school is located at the Fowzie Building and Mahroof Building. The environment is set to provide best atmosphere to the young children and teachers take special care on their educational activities.

The Senior section is located at the Main building of the school. It also compromises the Science Laboratory, Computer Lab, the Library, the Media Unit, Sports Room as well as the Dental Clinic which serves not only for the students of Hameed Al Husseinie College but also to 19 Schools in the area and 35 pre-schools.

The academic staffs pay special attention to the students in all subjects and guide them to actively participate in all school related activities.

The Advanced Level stream divided into three Sections – Mainly Science, Commerce and Arts. The academic staffs practice latest subject and knowledge improvising techniques which are applied in their teaching methods as per Ministry of Education guidelines.

Sports and physical training is also an integral part of the curriculum. The school facilitates a lot of sports activities to students to enable them to grow up physically and emotionally strong individuals. From winning the John Tarbot Shield in 1957, the College named itself as the front runner in all major School Soccer tournaments. The College’s soccer team won many major titles over the years including All Island Inter School Tournament and Colombo District Inter School Tournament organized by Sri Lanka Schools Football Association.

The school also made significant achievements in Karate Do. Many students have received black belt while studying at the school.

Students also take part in other leadership activities such as Prefects’ Guild, Brass Band, Cadetting, Life Saving Training sessions and First Aid.
